Laptop repair quote

i live on the 2nd floor. I made a mistake and my neighbour downstairs got a deluge of water in his lounge. Some water got into laptop when it was switched off. Neighbour said that he cannot now get wi fi and he can't shut it down except by unplugging it. Landlord came today and we agreed to ask him to get a repair quote and we would share the cost of repair. Neighbour took laptop (says cost £500) and not only gets a quote of £80 , but asks them to go and repair it and then this evening tells me of the price. I don't think he is lying ,but £80 for repair in the North of England seems a bit steep . What do the experts think ? Thanks

Without having any idea what the fault was, what replacement parts were needed, what make and model, etc, I think £80 is very reasonable.
Pay it now and avoid upsetting your neighbour further.0 -
I would count myself lucky if I was quoted that price when you consider how much damage water can do to delicate electrical goods.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Yes i have resolved to pay him half of it , but being a good Mser i am loathed to get ripped off. I asked him what actual repairs they would be doing but he didn't know. I would have thought a quick go over with a hair dryer and maybe a reinstall of something but heck what do i know - i'm the clown who forgot to put the stopper back in the washing machine!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Impossible to know unless you can specify what repairs are being done. If a part is being replaced then that sounds quite reasonable to be honest.0

I agree, £80 sounds pretty reasonable to me. A lot places would charge upwards of £40 just for a diagnosis/quote so £80 for a fix is pretty good.
To give you an idea, Medion quoted me £112 for an out-of-warranty repair quote for water damage a few months ago.0 -
