credit card reshuffle

Hi, I have 3.5k on virgin money credit card. 0% balance transfer expired in the Summer so looked to get another 0% balance transfer card however I was declined by Halifax and Barclaycard. I think this is because on my credit report it had a missed payment on my mortgage (due to changing jobs and didn't realise I was getting paid different date in the month) - this was in July. Not really sure what to do as would like to transfer credit cards but frightened to apply for another one in case I get knocked back again and I know it leaves a note on your credit report if declined? Anyone have any advice on how long I should wait before trying to apply for another one? cheers

If you've applied twice recently then I would say you should wait at least six months before applying again. In the current climate for credit it is difficult to say how easy it might be to get another card even then.

The missed payment will stay on your credit file for up to six years but how that will be regarded by a prospective lender over time will depend on the card issuer and the state of the market at the time you next apply.

It leaves a note that you applied regardless of the outcome.
