claiming back from royal mail

how do you claim for an item as a seller that goes missing in the post that is under £40 and you have proof of postage for but was bought for you as a gift or you no longer have the receipt for the item? Will Royal Mail not pay you back as you don't have all the evidence they require?

I assume there is still some sort of selling page showing what the buyer paid?
