Parking Tickets CLAMP down

Options
Has anyone else out there been clamped by bailiffs enforcing an order from the local council? This morning my wife and I were awoken at 06:15 to a chap putting a clamp on my wife's car for a car parking ticket that was originally £30, which has ballooned up to £357!

My query is this, if charges are meant to be to cover the perceived loss to the entity (as per reclaiming bank charges), how can they justify a £30 bill for not displaying a £1 ticket when a day's parking would total £8ish, let alone hiking it up to £357. Financial rape if you ask me. Especially considering the same council has increased council tax....

I agree with albertross. If you parked somewhere and failed to buy a £1 ticket, got a £30 fine, you should have paid the £30 fine straight up. If however you did pay the £1 and you had the ticket as proof you could contest the fine. Your ignorance has made the bill rise that much and as albertross says it will only increase and soon you will lose your car so they can recover the costs of the fine.

Moral of the story is pay and display, it's cheaper than a fine.
