Hedging plants at Aldi

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Aldi have been selling bare-rooted hedging plants at £3.99 per pack of 10 since last week.

Unlike their usual policy (where anything that's good value sells out in a day) their stock seems to be holding up well - or at least it is at my local branch.

Choice of:
  • Acer Campestre
  • Berberis Thunbergii Atropurpurea
  • Fagus Sylvatica
  • Prunus Spinosa
  • Rosa Glauca
  • Rosa Pimpinellifolia
  • Rosa Virginiana
  • Rosa Canina
Though they are supplied as a mixture in a box, so the most popular ones in the opened box tend to go quickly and the unpopular ones build up...

I went for the Berberis, which should be pretty, but I'm going to regret it when they need pruning, as they are horribly prickly!

I'm not sure i can find any room to plant them but at 40p each i'll go to StHelens tomorrow and worry later about where they'll fit.

Knowing how chaotic their stock control is, I wouldn't travel any distance on the offchance they will have some!

If that branch is the same as mine, they should be out the front, with the boxes of Amaryllis. If the open box is out of what you want, have a rummage in any (hopefully unopened) boxes underneath.

  • Brill, thanks for posting fwor. Dropped into Aldi (Penrith) this morning and found a couple of boxes hidden behind the amaryllis.
