Yes well said FFW. I visited five, and they all seemed fine - then I visited my sixth and I just knew that that was the right place for me. I couldn't explain why, but it turned out to be amazing and I never looked back!

Lara, listen to your instincts when you visit. Thats the best advice I can give. I could spend all day telling you how wonderful my uni was, but everyone's different.

You know what Lara - whoever posts stuff on here concerning the uni's you asked about - they're gonna say they're wicked! Best way to find out (if you can afford it) is to pay a trip to the cities and have a look round the universities on Open Days. It'll help you decide, I went round five uni's and I didn't choose until I went to Liverpool - my last visit - as I just felt I had to go there. If you do visit the cities - you'll know for sure which one you want to go to!

Good luck What are you planning on studying? L:ike the other said, PM me if you have any questions about Liverpool!

    I didn't :D I just viewed it from a parent's point of view ;)

But seems you like Liverpool too :D

Good advice though - visit them all :)

it all depends on the kind of person you are i think. i am at southampton and think its great cause the uni is close to town and i regard southampton to be a fairly big city but not big enough to seem daunting if you see what i mean...the uni is also close enough to town but also far enough away, you could happily goto uni at southampton without going into town.

i also chose it cause in my eyes it was close enough to home but not too close, ie if i wanted to get home i could (i live just outside london) but it wasnt close enough to want to go home each weekend.

southampton has and is having a lot of money pumped into it, there is a lot of building work including a fantastic new sports complex- new pool/gym etc.

and finally the department i study in is pretty well ranked! and modern...end of plug for southampton. i like it but im sure there are some people that dont!!

    That's another thing I liked about L'pool!!!

I chose The 'Pool for the opposite reason - I'm from London and I just wanted to get away from it! Saying that, I'm at home now but will soon be moving far far away again to Geordieland. Can't wait. :D

We'll we're nowhere near either so all the Uni's applied for tick that category! lol Mind you nearest would be S'hampton, Sheffield second and Liverpool the furthest.......................probably that's why he's picked them:):)

Southampton is a nice part of the country, Liverpool has two better football teams and Sheffield has.....................hills! :D

Oh well, we shall have to wait and see. At the end of the day he might not get the grades for them anyway. At least Liverpool & Sheffield accept General Studies - for what it's worth! :)

I did Zoology for a little bit at university until I did a complete 180° turn with what I wanted to do for the rest of my life... I enjoyed what I did of the course so he's picked a good one :)

When I was choosing which uni to go to I chose one that I knew no one I knew was going to... might seem a little bit strange but I decided that uni was going to be a completely new chapter in my life and I wanted to meet new people rather than living in my comfort zone by going to the university that most of my friends were going to. I totally believe that I made the right decision... I had a lot of fun, met some great people and had some fantastic experiences that I probably wouldn't have had if I'd followed the crowd.

One piece of advice I'd give your son is to have fun... it goes so quickly but it's a great opportunity to make some brilliant memories :)

I studied Zoology at Durham University and loved it.
Durham is beautiful, and being from London it was far enough away to ensure my family didn't expect to see me at weekends!
Whatever choice your son makes I know he'll make tons of new friends and I hope he has a great time.
