Halifax backlog in providing bank statements

On 29th February I requested 6 years' bank statements from Halifax enclosing cheque for £10 for each account (£40 in total). I have today rang them allowing time for the 40-day deadline to pass and have been told that the FSA have agreed to an 8-week deadline for the Halifax due to their huge backlog of requests for statements. However, the adviser told me that it is 8 weeks from the date of their cashing my cheque (5th April) NOT the date of receipt of letter requesting statements. Does anyone know if this is the case?
