Mini windscreen replacement

I need some advice! My mum has a mini one convertible and the back windscreen broke today (we don't know how), but to fix it the whole roof needs replacing. Her insurance excess is 75 for a replacement windscreen but 250 if not. Should she be expecting to pay just the 75 quid as technically its only the windscreen that is damaged? Thanks!

This isnt the first time this question has come up, it would depend on your insurance company really to decide wether they class this as a windscreen claim or a full claim. What have your insurance said?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

The windscreen excess usually applies if it is just glass being replaced (or bodywork scratches caused by broken glass).
I reckon it will be £250 for her.0 -
good old bmw making it so more parts (dealer only) have to be replaced, has anyone seen in the press how many have been setting fire recentlyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I did do a search but couldn't find a previous thread on it, but I'm sure other people must have had this happen. Apparently the Mini Cooper S has had a lot of problems with the rear windscreen just breaking! So far the insurance have just told Mum to get a quote and then they'll see if they approve it! Mum didn't specifically ask about the excess though, but I think I know what the answer from the insurance will be, I just don't know whether it's fair that because of how Mini make their cars people get charged much more for a windscreen replacement???0

And thank you for being especially nice to me as I'm a Newbie!0

They are just softening the blow for the bill your about to get
Please let us know what the insurance say though. Have you checked around to see if there are specialists that can replace just the screen?
They got it in there so i presume it must be possible. Is it money saving though? Or does it cost as much as a new hood?
Dread to think how much a new hood is.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
A new hood could be round about £2k but there are company's out there who will repair your old one.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

So the Mini garage has sent a quote to the insurance - 3000! Ouch! The insurance are probably going to send someone out to look. You'd think this was the first time this had ever happened though with the amount of time the garage took to send the quote and the advise from the insurance company!0

Great news! Mum just has to pay the lower excess for a windscreen replacement (£75). The actually cost was £2300, not £3000 like the insurance told us. Wahoo!0
