Volvo - DVD in headrests

Hi all

We're taking our Volvo XC90 to France from the north of England this summer, and I'm looking into the possibility of getting DVD screens fitted into the headrests for the kids for the journey.

Volvo charge an arm and a leg for this (over £2k + fitting, I think  ).

Any tips on getting a better price?

I know others do non-Volvo versions (less than £1k with fitting inc.) - what's the quality of these like?
I know you can also get velcro type set-ups for portable DVDs... they look a bit cumbersome to me, but what are they like?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Any professional in car installation (ie, into headrests) is going to cost a couple of hundred pounds at least, depending on what you want.

There is a cheaper option and that is to buy two portable LCD screens which connect to a portable DVD player. These screens are attached to the headrests using velcro straps and can be bought for around £100. Argos do a good range and are well worth a look at. The good thing is that you can move them from car to car, so that when you do finally decide to sell, you can take the screens with you rather than installing new ones.

I recommend you have a look at http://www.braybrooks.co.uk/carmultimedia.htm if you want this professionally done. They should be cheaper than the dealerships and their standard of workmanship is high.

Took the words right out of my mouth...

No point in paying through the nose to have them professionally fitted...
At least this way you can take them in at night for security.
And could probably buy a few extra DVDs for them to watch with the money saved :)

Just another thing, I know the threads a bit older now but I wouldn't get them fitted into the car, a friend had his headrests stolen 4 weeks ago as they had screens in them. Would buy something you can remove from the car when it's parked etc.
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hi.

I Purchased the 2 screen removable ones mentioned above. 2 screens, DVD plug'S into the rear Cigar lighter and very easy to use and more importantly removable.

I have a Volvo V70 estate and they fit really well and i would recommend them.
