HMRC backdated refunds

Hi

Does anyone know whether HMRC are still issuing the backdated refunds back to 03-04 as part of their ongoing programme following the overpayments they uncovered? I've been checking and I remember being charged what I thought was too much as far back as 03-04; and after checking I'm supposed to have overpaid by about 1K and a bit!
Will I ever get this and is it still being sent automatically or do I need to contact them direct?

Thanks if anyone knows anything:D

You would be better asking on the Cutting Tax board
  • My understanding is that they are commencing another exercise due to be completed by Christmas "ish" covering any outstsinding amounts owed. I believed they cjecked as far back as 2005-06 last year ( I may be wrong) so the only stage left is to go over 2003-04 and 04-05.

If youve a refund oweing for these years you should get it soon I'd say.

Theyve reportedly been through several million records and are on track to finish this exercise -caused by a new IT system throwing up errors- by Christmas"ish" like I said.

Hope that helps and hope you get yor money owed.
  • Thanks for that.

    I've also deduced something similar.

In early 2011 I received a cheque for a tax rebate, tax years 04-05 and 05-06. I wasn't expecting it, happened automatically in my instance.
