[STRIKE][/STRIKE]Hi there,

I posted an item last week (6th) 1st class recorded. I have checked the tracking number and it says they received on 7th and signed for it. They say they have not received and no one was in when RM say it was delivered and signed for.

I have given them the tracking no and they say that is not their sig. I have checked the address with them and the address on the receipt and all is correct.

What happens now? Do I still have to refund?

Cheers, Nikki

No you do not need to refund as your proof of delivery covers you against any ebay or paypal claim.

However, it does seem a rather common occurance at the moment for signed for items going to the wrong address- so do try and help the buyer resolve this. Maybe suggest they speak to their sorting office to see if they can shed any light on this.

yes she says the post man has been mixing a few things up lately and she has been to the neighbours and checked but nothing.

It sounds worrying but maybe ask her to talk directly to the post office.

The only difficulty here is if she can't find it and therefore insists on having her money back.

I'm not sure how you might help but you need to work out what is in the mutual interests of you and your buyer. I wouldn't have thought it was easy to chase up a misdelivered item as it could have gone anywhere, and if it is showing as signed for then it is doubtful that it is in the normal receptacle for lost mail, the sorting/delivery office.

  • CQ can I make a slight adjustment.......the Post Office is not the correct point of contact, it is the Delivery Office local to the buyer. IMHO it is always best if the seller and buyer do this, the buyer is hopefully local enough to call and the seller knows the parcel size/description.

Thank you. Locally for me the PO is where things are held awaiting collection, since the sorting office is ten miles away in Hook. But in big cities/towns, then you're probably right.

RD is just put through my door without a signature and stuff too large to be put through the letterbox left on the doorstep so in practice it's only special delivery stuff that ever gets held in the PO. OTOH my boyfriend had to go to the sorting office to get a package on Saturday and he was there and back within twenty minutes, including the time it takes to walk from his house to the car park on his estate.
