Hi - I'm really sorry to jump in this thread but I'm new and can't work out how to ask a new question to Helena.
Can anyone (or Helena) explain how I go about changing from a key and card service to a monthly meter? The house I'm about to move into (RENTED) have told me if I change I have to pay 'a few £100' to change it back. This scares me! If we don't stay many years its a large loss against the savings from lower cost on the monthly bill.

I'm already with eon, and I have a great tarrif which I don't want to loose :( any advise or links to threads which explain the cost of the change of meters will be much appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Gemma

You can't 'move' a tariff with you from one property to another anyway. When you move you are in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers, with whom you must register before you can switch. A PPM costs the same as the supplier's Standard tariff. If the supplier charges to change a meter, then about £50 is the norm-so plus another £50 to change it back if required by your LL, £100 is about right.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Hi Gemma

Helena's not around today so hope you don't mind if I reply.

We've recently softened our policy regarding changing prepayment meters to credit meters.

We no longer charge to do this. Nor do we insist a customer has to be with us for 12 months before we'll look at changing the meter.

We do, though, ask to carry out a credit check. Provided this is ok and there's no debt involved, we'll change the meter. We may also ask customers to set up a payment arrangement to cover future usage.

Also, there's currently no charge to change from credit to prepayment.

The tariff will change as we've different products for credit meters. However, our standard credit charges are similar to standard prepay charges.

Hope this helps Gemma. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
