No Ownership - AMEX vs Barclaycard, please help!!!

I'm desperatley trying to transfer the balance from my AMEX nectar card to a barclaycard. Barclaycard say my AMEX credit card number is invalid and that it's a problem with the AMEX system. I've confirmed my credit card details numerous times with them. I've spoken to AMEX and they say it's a problem with Barclaycard's system. I'm just going round in circles and getting nowhere, any ideas?

  • Amex cards tend to be 15 digit, rather than 16. I'm not sure if there is a work around.

    Your issue is with Barclays.

Do they want to transfer this balance or not?

If they want to, can their systems cope with it?

If the answer is no, that's the end game.

Barclaycard will have to do it manually and basically pay off the Amex card with a wire transfer

If I were you I would keep away from both Barclaycard and Amex...

Barclaycard customer services are about the worst I have ever had to deal with after having been subject to fraud following the MSDW takeover.

Amex have just charged me £20 for not using my card for 12 months.

But if you read the t&cs they send you, then it's not a problem.
  • I also agree with @reclusive46. They should do it manually as their system is different from each other. I wonder how they could ignore this kind of issues? They should take immediate steps to cope their system with Amex.

When I took the card out in 2008 there was no such fee. To me this is a deliberate scam. They sent no email or letter warning of the fee in advance. Most other credit card companies do not impose such a charge. What other companies charge you a fee for not buying something from them for 12 months?
