keen to keep same number - new house on same exchange, so would normally be OK with BT, but looks unclear on TT site ?

TT normally ask you to return to BT and then come back to them.

And the reason TT does that is because it saves them all those pesky Openreach charges.

And it appears TT's 'creative accounting' is the reason BT is withdrawing the £18 'get out of the 12 month contract' fee and requiring customers to pay the first 12 months charges in full.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Not keen on losing that number given some of my old clients still have it, and as I have had some poor c/s from TT recently decided to cut losses and swap back to BT now, which should hopefully mean easier if/ when I do move house.

Transfer back to BT was due to take place yesterday, but did not
called BT today... TT stopped it as account got a cancellation marker.. will try again in 5 days.

TT , says that as I told them to cancel ( I did also tell them I was moving to BT) any port request would be stopped auatomatically , instead cancelling down line tomorrow ...

once cancelled the line nor the number can be ported to BT !

    OH !!!!!!!

The number normally returns to BT in 30 days if from WLR, maybe 2-3 months if LLU.
So wait and ask if it can be returned to you.

You cant. Just get BT to set up a line and then ask them to find where your number is. They should be able to 'DN' the number, that shows us if its back with us, on the way or still with CPW.

Sorry, but CPW screwed you over.

    OK this is my situation:

Currently with TalkTalk, moving to new house (with current BT line installed) at the end of the month.

I don't want to stay with TalkTalk, so the whole thing about having to sign up to BT again, is fine by me!

What I want to know if I'm right in saying is:

When I get to new house I have to call BT and activate the line... Is there a cost for this?

I presume I have to have a new phone number?

    Many thanks!
