First Ebay Purchase Problem - What to do?

I bought some used playmobil off ebay on buy it now and it arrived by courier on Friday afternoon - it was described in good condition. Now that the recipient is at nursery I have had the opportunity to open the box. To say that I am very disappointed is an understatement it is filthy dirty/dusty and loads of crucial parts are missing eg the dustbin lorry is missing its rear end! The seller described it as in good condition - I would describe it as fit for the bin and no way would I sell anything like it.

Would my initial action be to contact the seller to say how disappointed I am and see what they say? To be honest I would prefer to send the whole lot back as its supposed to be a Christmas present for my four year old.

Yes, very much so - be cautiously polite - I would expect someone who sent that sort of stuff out not to be receptive to a return request, but you never know until you try.

You have 45 days to raise any disputes so the fact that you delayed opening it until now is neither here nor there.

Yeah, go to the buyer first and be clear what you want, eg if you want a refund say you want one. Put it nicely as said above. It may ending up costing you to send back so query who will be paying for return postage if she agrees.

If she handles it well then I personally would either just not leave feedback or leave positive saying dealt with problem well. If they don't want to help then go to dispute . Paypal dispute tries to go to ebay for dispute but I always try to stick with it being a paypal dispute as not had much joy with eBay ones ( may just be bad luck, unsure),

Thank you for your help. Any suggestions on how to word my initial email would be appreciated - I dont want to go in guns a blazing.

If they do agree to a return how do I go about it? I know it needs to be sent tracked which is going to cost me a fortune as its bulky so in a heavy box but do I need to do anything with ebay/paypal prior to sending it back?

If they refuse to refund I assume I have to open a dispute - how do I do that?

Sorry for all the questions I have been buying on ebay for quite a while and have never had any problems at all.
  • Would something along the lines of the following be suitable as my first contact with the seller?

"I am in receipt of my recent purchase from your goodselves and regret to advise that I am extremely disappointed as a lot of crucial components are missing/damaged. The item was described in good condition and was intended as a Christmas gift and as a result of the poor condition I am unable to give it as a gift. I therefore wish to return it to you for a full refund. I await your further instructions."

Any alternative suggestions would be appreciated.
  • Sandwich it.....thank you for the speedy delivery...it was carp......I look forward to hearing back.
