Are Christmas cards dying out?

Our children always moan about the tree as it never has that 'designer' look. They always groan when I put the ones they made at school out(but I think they like it really!)
We (all grown-up siblings) always go looking on my Mum's tree for the deccies we made as children - and I always put a tree decoration my DD made as a little-un on our tree too

I like Christmas and I like getting cards from cousins in Oz . I keep in touch through facebook with them too. I don't like writing loads of cards but I don't think I can stop sending if people send me one . I'd really like to stop sending cards to ex neighbours and others who I haven't seen for years and don't keep in touch with in the year . I send cards to our family who we see all the time too . At least I can hand them out . I'm 60 !0

I like to send cards to people I don't see very often to show them I'm thinking of them and remember them (!)
Otherwise I don't bother. We tend to do a thing at work where by we donate to charity instead and all write merry christmas to each other on the charity poster. Some cards seem such as waste!0 -
Yes and no. I still make sure that I send them to mine and my hubbys family. Hubby's family live far away so we make sure we send them cards with a nice letter in.
But I have had to start sending less cards to my friends that go through the post. I just can't afford the stamps anymore.
Those that don't have to be sent, are no problemRemember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0 -
I make my own Christmas cards and probably end about 60 which I didn't think was very many until I came on here. The only people that I don't recieve from are elderly and I wouldn't stop sending to them. I always display them on a lovely tree card holder and they are recycled.
I don't do facebook, twitter etc and if you can only be bothered sending an e-card then don't.

7 years ago, I moved house, my mum died between exchange and completion, and the stress of it all put me in bed for months (I have a serious illness and am disabled, so my health was already fragile).
Anyway, that Christmas I exhausted myself writing the usual mountain of cards to people that I hardly ever see, and in many cases haven't actually seen for years. I even put stamps on the envelopes, but they never got posted. And - as someone else said - the world didn't stop.
So I stopped doing it, and it was such a relief. Gradually the cards I receive have dwindled to one or two. And I am so pleased - they are from people who I care about and they go on the mantlepiece as they always have done, but I don't have to deal with my conscience about the rest which used to go in a pile on a shelf in the porch until I got round to doing something 'green' with them.
Christmas cards are now restricted to my elderly neighbours, a couple of dear friends who are not on the internet, and my Dad (who would be distraught if I 'forgot' christmas).
I have family and friends all over the world, and I send beautiful, carefully chosen, e-cards from a paid-for website. They are always happy to receive them. I also send a text on christmas day to everyone, and I post a fb message.
In fact I do that on all important days that are special to the people in my life - birthdays, christmas, eid, bayram, solstices, full moon...

I'm so very glad I got in the habit of keeping cards received from my Dad as he got older. A week or so ago I was clearing out a drawer and I came across some of them. He passed away 3 years ago so I'll never get anymore.
Don't moan about writing and receiving cards from the older ones you hold dear. Someday they won't come anymore and you'd give anything to receive them.Make £2025 in 2025

Personally, I wouldn't bother with cards, if it was just up to me; my DH still likes to send them though (we celebrate Yule rather than Xmas, but it's close enough - Winter Solstice - that we can get away with non-religious Xmas cards if we can't find proper Yule ones).
We have a list on Excel, that gets a little shorter each year, as various friends toddle off to the Summerlands.
As regards actually doing the cards, I put the Excel sheet up on the computer screen, and the bundle of cards in front of Mr LW and let him get on with it.:D He does insist on me signing my own name (in the same way, he likes to sign his own name if it's a birthday card to a friend I know better than him), but that's the sum total of my involvement.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I don't give Christmas cards, seems like a waste of money and there's too much of "oh x gave me one so I'll have to send one back".Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

I stopped sending Christmas cards about 3 years ago. Now rather than spend money on cards, I do a donation to any charity instead that can use the money to help people such as the homeless or elderly people on their own.
