Tenth Anniversary 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker Debt-free and Proud!
Plotting every penny and frittering as little as possible, and to be fair I started 2013 early because I'm not in the 2012 thread. My totals are always the last round of balances on my official statements so include the new round of interest for the month; the actual payments I made were higher than my total. I paid off a £650 card and a £189 one because I inadvertently changed the direct debit on another till 3rd January; it was unintentional but I thought I might as well make the most of the 'month off' rather than fritter it away.

I've been very frugal on Christmas this year. £70 on presents, £6 on treats for the office, £9 on family cards, and my half of Christmas dinner to my sister which is likely to be £20ish. I've refused all Christmas celebrations at work; I'm the only one not going to the £50+ meal tomorrow night and I'm happy about that. I'm not sure how I've managed it really because I've also accounted for the road tax next month which I wasn't planning on paying, plus a double-payment to two of the cards so I'm not waiting till the next payday to pay them. It seems the more I plot and plan, the further the money stretches when it shouldn't work like that in reality.

Keeping a spending diary is key for me for every single penny, and not buying food at work. Oh and moving to paying cash for shopping - no more debit cards, I take a list, and price everything up before I go so I know what I paid last time in which shop.

All my energy is going into becoming debtfree as soon as possible, and strangely I don't feel deprived - I just want that debtfree feeling more than I want anything else I could blow my money on. I have executive powers over every £1 to touch my bank account or my physical hands, and I have to account to myself for it. I'm reading a lot of freebie Kindle books on personal finance and getting the pay-off bug. I'm hoping to live off freezer and pantry contents well into January so it'll be a very frugal next 5 weeks, even though it includes 2 birthdays and a treat out for myself.

I want to join this one. Can I make my goal £10,000 please. If I pushed really hard I might get beyond that, it it seems a reasonable target which should still allow me to have a life.

Can I join please, my target will be £2000
at the moment I owe £250-next
    £1000- barclaycard
    £750- overdraft

I'm going to use the rest of my overdraft to pay off as much of my barclaycard debt as I can because the interest rate is a lot higher on my card.

Please can I join this challenge as I would love to be able to pay off £4808 in 2013? I would hopefully like 2014 to be savings and a deposit of a new house so I need to be debt free.

I have managed to find £5.68 from other accounts so total so far is £5.68/£4808.

I cannot wait for the new year to get started either especially as DH has started a new job. In January we should know what his earnings and outgoings for petrol should be.

    Hi everyone.

I'd like to join, please. Can you put me down for £16,904 which would clear everything. It's a big ask as it would be knocking 11 months off DFD, but I'm going to give it a go.

    Itsa x

  • Thank you Leictina for adding me. I paid £40 onto my barclaycard yesterday so new total stands at £45.83/£4808. I managed to pay the £5.68 into my overdraft account with change from my purse which added up to the grand total of 15p. It's better in my overdraft account then in my purse though :j
