Reclaiming charges on old/closed accounts

No doubt a lot of these questions will have been repeated, so apologies for that but there is such a lot of information to trawl through. I really have two questions:

1. Can I follow the reclaiming process for old/closed/defaulted accounts ? if there are still amounts outstanding, would they be payable immediately ?

2. I am still a little unclear as to the interest bit. When, how and should I claim for it ? Just to get it straight in my head, as an example, I have been charged £25.00 in Aug 2002 for a returned direct debit. What should I claim back for this ?

This is really an excellent site. I only wish I had followed this up sooner.

If somebody could clarify for me, I would be most grateful.
