Credit Builder Card

in Credit cards
So, historically i have struggled with credit. About 5 years ago i lost my job and missed payments on about 3 credit agreements and it has punished me. Fortunately a stable job with good income seem to be on the way to repairing it.
I changed bank accounts about 9 months ago after being with Abby/Santander all my life. Halifax offered me the standard £100 overdraft but said i couldn't have a credit card.
I also did a soft search about a potential loan and got no success there, told me not to even bother.
So recently i felt the need to start boosting my score as im getting older, i thought i would play it safe given my history and went for a Capital One credit builder card. It just turned up with a £1500 limit.
Now i know they take on almost anyone, and i get 56 days to repay purchases interest free, but, would i have gotten accepted on a better deal with a proper card somewhere else? I know people that have only gotten £300-£500 on the same card that i got, so surely its good news for me?
How long of spending and repayment do you advise before i go for a better deal later down the line?
