Not about a dvd player but have you seen Martin's post on the Freebies (no spend required) Board about a free oyster card? It may save you some money on your travel costs.

Just through a quick look on the web - buy Alba DVD62XI at ASDA. £21.94 on the website. Looks like its £14.99+VAT from Makro if you know anyone who can get it there.

Multi region hack below courtesy of https://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk forums.

The ALBA DVD62XI dvd player is not multiregional out of the box, but there is a simple set of instructions to make it that way.

    1. Turn on your TV and DVD player.
    2. Press the Open/Close button on the remote control.
    3. Using your remote control, key in the following numbers from the keypad: 3, 3, 0, 8, 8 one after the other,
    4. Then immediately press the 10/0 button on the remote control to set the region to 0 which is the multiregional setting.
    5. Pres the Open/Close button on the remote control.

Quick point of advice. There are cheaper players but they are normally not very common brands. That may make finding the multi region hack harder so stick to a cheap "common" branded player.
  • i know the DVD player (Durabrand LEDVD0701)in ASDA is £17.69 is multi region.

    HACK:

To change the current region setting on this player

    2. Press the Standby button on your remote control to turn on the unit
    3. Press the Open/Close button on your remote control to open the drive tray
    4. Press the Clear button on your remote control
    5. Press the 1 button on your remote control
    6. Press the 3 button on your remote control
    7. Press the 6 button on your remote control
    8. Press the 9 button on your remote control
    9. Press the 0 button on your remote control
    10. Press the Open/Close button on your remote control to close the drive tray
    11. Press the Standby button on your remote control to place the unit into Standby
    12. Press the Standby button on your remote control to turn on the unit

i bought one recently, i tested before and after with an americian DVD and this hack works. =)
