  • Thanks for the advice everyone.

I need to talk to my parents about it but the decision isn't going to solely lie with me.

Con 1888- I don't WANT to rehome my cat. I said I was considering it because I care deeply about him and IMO its better than him running away and me having the stress and anxiety of wondering where he is. I know they aren't "throw away items" otherwise he wouldn't still be here after 8 years, would he?

My brother doesn't even live at home anymore but my parents will take his choice into consideration over me. He is manipulative like that unfortunately and nothing I can do about that either and is a whole different kettle of fish.

I do want one but I am honestly not that fussed- it is my family who are.

I will show them this thread.

    Thanks again.

Maybe talk your parents into looking at other options, like fostering for a rescue, or perhaps taking on a guide dog puppy? That way the commitment isn't so long term and you can all see how having a dog in the house works out (or doesn't), how the cat copes, and whether the brother keeps his end of the deal in terms of helping out. Often the reality of a puppy is a lot less exciting than the thought of one but if you're only fostering for a while it's easier to cope knowing there's an end to it in sight.
