How can someone have DNAR ( Do Not Attempt Resuscitaion) and not be eligible for CHC? I am sure theres a simple answer.

Having a DNR doesn't in itself tell you anything about the health or otherwise of the individual.

Continuing healthcare funding and dnr are not related in any way.

dnr is a decision made by healthcare professionals & patient/family whether or not resuscitation should be attempted if the patient stopped breathing. its no reflection on the care needs of the person involved.

Continuing healthcare funding is extra funding outside the hospital environment for people with significant level of extra care needs due to health conditions eg it can pay for extra staffing to cope with their health needs when accessing daycentres.

if youve been through an assessment and disagree with it, theres information about appealing on this link

    Thanks for the responses.
I was amazed that even though I asked for the CHC checklist and requested to be present as mum has dementia they did it anyway with no one there and said mum will have to go through the hospital legal department for the result and a copy of it..

Just sitting here feeling annoyed so am going to vent.

My mother has spent best part of past 3 mnths in hospital.
    Her conditions include
    Long QT
    Vascular dementia
    Vasovagal syncope
    grade 4 pressure areas
    delirium (diferent to dementia)
    panic attacks
    depression
    paranoia
susceptibility to chest infection(3 in 3 months)
    malnourished.
    collapsed vertebrae in spine
    lung cancer
    shortness of breath sporadically
    double incontinence.
    immobility.
high risk for falls (at least 4 falls in hospital)
The areas all impact on each other.
When she forgets she cant walk she falls, she injures her skin which is slow to heal because of nourishment, (waterlow 20+).
She becomes anxious and passes out.
She is on a large amount of meds which she is often non compliant with.
I asked for CHC checklist and was told it had been done before dishcarge from hospital, I made it plain i wanted to be involved as mum has dementia and did not even know she was in hospital. it turns out they didnt do it, but told me they had.
The nursing home she was discharged to referred her case as safeguarding because the hospital did not pass on any informatin about pressure areas. The hospital repeatedly told me that she had no pressure areas. When speaking to case manager I was told that any pressure areas were healed. The social worker given the safeguarding to follow up tells me she wont get CHC. He has never met mum or carried out a checklist. I was not asking him about CHC but offering further information re the safeguarding referral. I have only ever wanted the checklist carrying out.
not asking for answers but just listing it all.

so sorry shes suffering so much and youre put under extra stress in order to get the help she so clearly deserves. i know this is health we're talking about but social services are crisis-led, which usually means they wait until youre in a crisis situation before offering support, maybe health adopt the same policy so all i can suggest is shout & scream because in my experience, thats what gets results. as mentioned in monkeyspanner's thread, i found contacting the pct direct much more efficient - they got results within 2 weeks after waiting months for social services to get their act together! Have you PMd monkeyspanner because they seem to very knowledgeable about chc?
