Hi....i've finally got myself a little job working at greggs, I'm a single parent and will be claiming housing benefit and working tax credits.
The job stated was for 16hours....
really i only want 16 hours as i have more than enough to do at home....also i have been told if you start changing the hours i do then housing benefit gets complicated...is this true, i don't want to be tooing a froing, sitting waiting in the council offices!
Just when i went for my induction i was given my hour for the next week they had given me about 25 hours....as it happens i ciouldn't do the first 2 days so now it is 16 hours....
Am I within my rights to say I only want 16 hours, I haven't signed any contract.....I really don't want to cause a fuss but i took the job on the basis of doing 16 hours...
Any suggestions on how to tell them etc

Just say you want 16 hours. If your contract says that, then do it.0

Remembering that the employer can dismiss for any (or indeed, no) reason within the first two years, as long as it is not discriminatory. Retail work requires flexibility, the OP sounds anything but.0 -
I thought that you could not get working tax credit on 16 hours?luvvlyjubbly wrote: »Hi....i've finally got myself a little job working at greggs, I'm a single parent and will be claiming housing benefit and working tax credits.

Single parents can, although in this case benefits appear to be a disincentive to work.
