I've used Epsom salts in the past. Not as an ointment but the dissolved crystals instead of ordinary salt. If I remember rightly it was vet recommended but the dog had to sit with her foot in the water for several minutes. Which was fun.
That was to get the mank out of a cyst rather than a splinter but the principle sounds the same. Hope you get it sorted without too much upset .
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Just made up the salt water solution and managed to get my dog to sit calmly for a whole 10 minutes with his paw in the water.

Took the paw out and patted it gently dry.

Then realised it was the wrong paw...!

    Oh well. Start again!

He's really good that way. Although he did have a look on his face as if to say "Mother...!!!!!!???"

Would it be helpful in getting the glass out though?

Sorry, only just seen this, its probably too late now as you've probably been to the vet anyway but yes, the honey would have helped to draw it out.

The vet had a look and couldn't see anything. Told me to keep an eye on it and if no better by Thursday, to bring him back.
