Fitting a five bar gate

Hi,
Can anyone advise how difficult it is to hang a far bar gate with only one person? I plan to fit two gates (one 9 ft, one 4 ft) to close a 13 ft entrance. The price I've had to fit them to existing posts is around £500 plus the gates. I'm firmly handy at DIY but would like to hear any opinions if this is likely to be tricky, ESP as I'll be doing most of it on my own. Thanks.

Ideally you do need two persons to hang the 9ft gate, although the smaller one could probably be hung single handed.
It is the weight of the larger gate which would be the problem.
The principle of hanging these gates would be first to measure the opening between the posts; the overall width of the gates and establish that you have sufficient space for the ironmongary (bands, crooks etc.)
The larger gate would be then packed up level adjacent to it's post and at the required height from the ground and the hinges or bands & crook fitted. This would then be repeated for the smaller gate.
£500 is quite high (although if it includes all ironmongery it is not far away!). I suggest you ask for a breakdown and obtain a couple of other quotes.0 -
if the 500 includes digging and fitting the posts then its a bargain! Anyway - yes with a bit of thought you can hang a 9 footer yourself.

Blocks and a spirit level should do the trick. (Assuming the post is in place and solid)0
