BT disconnected our landline approx 18mths ago but over the past week it has started randomly ringing in. Have managed to press the answer button just a couple of times to hear a crackly nothingness or a dialing tone. It has happened about 4 times tonight, the last one was 1.45am. Does anybody have any idea why this has started happening?

It's just done it again at gone 4 in the morning! I can't get to the socket as there's big bit of furniture in the way so I've done the next best thing & put the handset on silent.0

The phone would still be connected to a circuit as you have dial tone so if it's ringing it could be the is a short somewhere on the line or circuit.
How many times does it ring for before it cuts out?..0 -
It really does vary, sometimes it's just a couple of times but sometimes loads. Do you think I should contact BT about it?
Thanks for answering by the way.0 -
As you are not a customer I doubt it would be a priority for them to fix it.0
