Before running the instructions below answer me these questions - Have you just installed Malwarebytes? If so, did you opt out of the PRO trial?

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTM.exe
    • Right click OTM.exe and choose Run as Administrator to run it.
    • Copy the following code inside the codebox below. Do not include the word Code:
      :processes
      killallprocesses

      :Files
      C:\Users\brandon\AppData\LocalLow\MyWebSearch
      C:\Users\Mamma\AppData\LocalLow\MyWebSearch
      C:\Users\Internet Only\AppData\LocalLow\MyWebSearch

      :Commands
      [CreateRestorePoint]
      [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large MoveIt! button.
    • Click OK to the prompt
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please Allow it to do so if asked.
    • The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. Copy/paste the contents of that report back here in your next reply.
  • No, I've had the program for ages. However, I always check for updates before doing a scan and did update it recently but would always opt out of trial they offered.

    Shall I still do above?

Thanks. Yes, continue with the above.
  • Hi

I have actioned the above and had a reboot. However, the report did not display? where can I find the report?

Sorry for being dim and thanks for helping me

That's okay. There'll be a folder at the root of your C: drive named _OTM

The report (.txt file) will be in there in a folder named MovedFiles

    C:\_OTM\MovedFiles

That looks good. A quick scan with MBAM should be clear now.
  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me your time and expertise, I definately wouldn't have known to to clear it without your help. :)

Can I be cheeky and ask a couple of questions about my internet security?

I have malwarebytes, CC cleaner and Avast on my computer and I run all three before doing online banking and when I am finished, then I clear my cookies after. Is this ok?

I have always had a wired internet connection up until last week, now I have both a wired and wireless connection on my PC so we can use the internet on our mobiles. When I want to do online banking, do I switch off the WiFi so noone can use it until I have finished all the scans and done my online banking or just tell everyone not to use it until I am done or they can carry on using it as normal during my scans/banking?

If someone downloads something on their mobile containing a virus through my PC WiFi, does it effect the mobile, the PC or both?

Sorry for all the questions but any answers appreicated.

Yes, but a few things I should point out. Avast has a realtime scanner which means any active malware it's capable of detecting should be picked up by the realtime scanner without any real need to do an additional scan.

    Notice I emphasised active.

Scanners will sometimes detect malware during the scan that is benign. ie; it isn't active in memory, and can't automatically enter memory - therefore the threat is benign.

A quick scan with Malwarebytes (MBAM) should suffice. As above, MBAM's quick scan scans all the areas where an active malware infection that it's capable of detecting - or one capable of becoming active - is likely to be found.

That said, do what you are most comfortable with, what gives you the most confidence.

They should be ok to carry on, but at the end of the day, as above, do what you are most comfortable with, what gives you the most confidence.

Generally speaking they're different operating systems. Malware that affects one won't affect another.
