Home improvement grants

Hello

I own my house outright (inherited it) its early 1950s ex-council & still has orig electrics that work ok & no C/H. However, i would like the house re-wiring & have gas C/H fitted.

I am in full time employment but do not have the funds avaiable to pay for these improvements. I cant borrow the money as i was discharged from BR in 2008 so my credit report is shot until at least 2014 when all the adverse info drops off.

Are their any home improvement grants or govt backed loans available? Or will i have to wait a few yrs until i have saved up & my cr rating improves.

Thanks

  • Hi, I am a building Contractor for Denbighshire Council N. Wales and we do home improvements through the council for private clients. The Council pays us and a charge is put on the property so when the property is sold the council claims the costs from the improvements from the proceeds of the property sale. I dont know if other Councils do this but might be worth a phone call to the Housing dept
