I would dispose of the mattresses and all bedding this lodger has used.

That might not solve anything on its own. The vile blighters secrete themselves between the floorboards and under wall-paper. They are the very devil to get rid of.

    Unlike Lodger One.

I do know they are difficult to get rid. Hence my comment I would have gotten rid of the source immediately i.e. lodger No1 and any bedding she had come in contact with.
Bugs breed, OP has allowed this person to reside for 2+months and change rooms

That's not usually necessary unless the actual matress surface has holes or rips for the bugs to crawl into. They can hide in the seams, but can be flushed out with a thorough examination.

A bigger issue is the bugs' ability to hide in power points, joins and underneath skirting boards. Basically, any crack or opening could host both bugs and eggs. Soft furnishings that give the bedbugs access to foam or stuffing are particularly problematic.

Bed bugs are extremely tenacious and take a lot of effort to banish. They are very distressing to live with and require serious resources to defeat.
  • In America, they use heat to kill them - bedbugs die if the temperature reaches 46C, Don't know if any UK exterminstors use this approach.

Ive heard of this - might make enquiries

The funny thing is this problem lodger is on her way to a kicking out anyway:

    - Not locking front door properly after going out (On a couple of occasions front door could be unlocked from outside)
    - Not shutting freezer door (Its integrated, so cant be thrown shut, needs to be slammed but still)
    - Leaving lights on ALL THE !!!!ING TIME

    Really tired of all this

Where's your compassion? I understand she might have brought in the bugs, keeps the lights on and doesn't have any rights as a lodger, but I think a decent amount of notice would only be fair - after all, it looks like it's going to be a very cold winter.

Hi Have you asked your local Council if they do a bedbug treatment (they do here in Brum). Chances are you will get a reasonable price charged and you should be able to check their qualifications.

Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
