Excel Parking Fine :( - advice/reassurance needed

Hi all.
Before I start, I'd like to apologise in advance as its likely you've heard the story before.
I was 30 minutes late returning to my vehicle after paying £2 to park for an hour. As you can guess, I received a notice to pay excel a fee as I overstayed my permitted time.
I'd like to ask how I should deal with this. The amount they've charged me is extortionate to the amount of additional time I spent in the car park. Should I:
- ignore, ignore, ignore
- write to them and try to challenge the fine (maybe offer £1 cello taped to the envelope as a gesture of goodwill for my breach of the contract! Maybe kicking the hornets nest I know!)
- pay the fine (really don't want to do this)
Just to describe my character trait, I am completely adverse to risk and this sort of thing makes me very uneasy. My first instinct was to pay the fine until I seen everyone saying how the firm are a bunch of crooks and the fine is unenforceable.
The parking ticket has no mention of council or police property.
Many thanks for all replies.

Relax!
Excel are currently banned from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct. With only your car's registration number they have no way of getting your name and address.
Even if they could you would still be well advised to ignore them, but as they have been deemed so awful that the DVLA have banned them, you can relax knowing that as of now the matter is finished.
Have a nice weekend!0 -
Yep Excel are banned from getting your details from the dvla, the only way they can get them is if you tell them, or they illegally get it from another BPA AOS member who has access, like their sister company VCS. If they do write to you please come back to us.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Wow, that was better than I expected. Very much appreciate the reply.
I know these crook co's usually trade under a group structure. Could one of the other subsidiaries acquire our details?0 -

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry, my statement about the group companies was written before seeing your reply. I shall not be paying this then!
Can I demand how they acquired my details if they do manage to get them?0 -

Yes but if they do they are seriously in the brown stuff, and could be banned permanently from access to the database for circumventing a punishment that they actually deserved to have. And that applies if they use a separate company like ranger services to do the same .Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. Thanks both.
Ill keep you posted of any developments.0 -
Most likely you will hear nothing more from Excel (currently banned from the DVLA).
Unless they are going to be stupid and try and pull a fast-one over the DVLA and do a bulk-order once they have access (like OPC).0 -

This forum really is excellent, I would have paid it if not for people like yourselves making everyone aware that they are actually scammers.0
