I've just received a reply to my email so it appears that all entries are being counted without a confirmation page. Here is the reply I got

Thanks for alerting us to this problem – our web designers are investigating the problem to try and see what’s happened. as I said in my earlier post the entries are being counted even though no confirmation of entry has been received so don't try again or you'll be duplicating your entry
