Planning a Wedding

Wedding insurance is worthless. save your money.
The companies are really hard to get money out of- i have been trying to get money back for 6 months now and they make it so difficult.
I really wish i had kept the £110 i paid for it..0 -
Would you not be best finding a space (eg church hall, large garden with marquee etc) and bringing in caterers who can give you exactly what you want? Hotel food is hotel food and no matter what they can't be truely flexible. It's always expensive too. A tasty buffet is a much better idea IMHO.
Good luck with your wedding0 -
You cant really set a date until you decide if you want a church or civil ceremony, so decide that first, then if you want a summer wedding or not. Once you decide church or civil you can make appointments to view hotels/venues that offer a civil ceremony or an appointment to see your local vicar. I would then get off those venues a list of dates that are available, then go to recepetion venues like hotels with these dates. If you decide a civil ceremony than that is usually in a hotel anyway.
If you want a summer wedding at the most popular hotel and church then start looking around. I planned our biggish church wedding in 1 year so you are a bit early now to choose things like dresses etc and the styles will change.
I would maybe open an ING account, I do this for holidays and its really easy. You can choose what you pay a month and change it if you like. Its all done on the net.
We had 60 in the day and about 100 at night, we had a church service, I had a dress that cost £1200 just for the dress  we had a posh hotel and proper wedding breakfast, and the day cost about 10k. OUr guests paid for our honeymoon as we didnt need housy things.

I think if you have a smaller do with less people the cost can be reduced.
Good luck

My suggestion, if you can get hold of a copy, is the wedding book Marks and Spencer produced a couple of years ago (I think they still sell it but i'm not 100% sure). It cost me £8 and it contains everything you ever need to know about planning a wedding - From if you have 2weeks to plan to 2 years. I found it invaluable and it really did cover everything I'd thought of, and more. It also has a really useful list of shops and suppliers for wedding goods, in the back. However, most of these are based in London, so not entirely helpful for those of us that live up north!
Hope this helps.
