Please can I lean on the benefit of all your experience, and get an idea if the following is a fair/competitive quote.
1550x2100 combination frame clear 28mm Argon WES Glass - open inwards - made up of 3 windows decreasing in size. This is where the stairs are.
1140x1500 obscure 28mm Argon WES Glass - 2 of 4 open
600x600 obscure 28mm Argon WES Glass 1 of 1 open
1750x1620 clear 28mm Argon WES Glass 2 of 6 open
1940x1620 clear 28mm Argon WES Glass 2 of 6 open
610x600 clear 28mm Argon WES Glass 1 of 2 open
Composite front door 970x2145
1960x2100 combination frame - consists 2 of 5 windows which open, and a door.
clear 28mm Argon WES Glass
clear 28mm Argon ASB toughened Glass
A rated
Supply and fit
Best Quote is around the 5500 mark and they are using Veka units.
Everest are jokers who wanted 16k
Another local company were asking 6800.
Any help, would be really appreciated, the industry is a scary place.

Hi
Find a local company with a local show room. A company that manufacture double glazing window, not a fitting company. Give them these measurement and see what the quote you. It should give an idea about the labour cost by knowing how much windows cost.
Sometimes, the fitter, adds 10-15% to the units cost and then his labour with a profit.
Get another quote. I am guessing you might be able to knock another £1000 if you are not in an expensive area (are you down south?). Are they FENSA registered? If not, get Building Control notified BEFORE the work starts to get it signed off later on.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
I think herein lies the problem.
I'm in Surrey.
The common theme being, to get someone to ring you back to arrange a quote is a battle.
Once I've had someone in to quote, I've gotta filter out all the once that are jokes.
I've called half a dozen fitters, of those that call back and do measure up, some I dont hear them again, and those that do, understandably I suppose, they would rather work indoors at this time of year!
So, the above is what I've ended up with.
But I see your point and will try and find someone that will quote me the material cost, and take it from there.
BTW, all of these are FENSA registered.

Ah, Surrey.
Then it sounds ok for the area, as a6windows said. But if you insist, get a double glazing manufacturer to quote you and see. (Quick slide and RoundBrand in Yorkshire might give a quote?) But again, their prices are from Yorkshire, but Quick slide might have contractors in your area. Give them a ring.
Otherwise, 5.5K seems reasonable otion.
All the best.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Can I jump in here, as I also need some advice. I live in the north west and I had a salesman from Safestyle give me a quote today for 2 square leaded bay windows (1800 x 1400 & 1800 x 1150) and a single clear kitchen window (1200 x 1000), all grade A, plus a composite front door with two side glass panels. Total cost £5500 - he originally started at £8500. Is this a fair price? I've done a quote online and it was half the price, but I'm not sure of the quality or reliability. It is a minefield out there.
Help please.0 -
the next time around rather then the being fitted, I would go to Wickes and get someone to fit it for me. Think they still do windows???
you rarely really know the quality until the are fitted and a year or two passes - is my experience.
Also make sure the glass gets fitted from the inside. If fitted from the outside it is fairly easy to remove the bezels and if the security tape is not good, pull the window out. It also makes fittings easier0 -
