Hello all
Im after some advice on what i would need to set up as a car disposal, end of life, recycling, dismantlement call it what you may.
The idea that i have is
rent a unit
dismantle an end of life car
put all parts on shelf, scrap the shell, sell parts on ebay/gumtree ect.
start the process over again
stripping say 6 cars a week
any one know what licences i will need to apply for ect.
thanks

cant comment knowledgeably about the regulatory side, but i'm curious on how you would make this work at this volume?
Some parts might take 3 months to sell - or longer - so potentially you're going to have parts for 75 cars at any one time. All presumably shelved and labelled. Thats a lot of storage space needed.
You're going to need at least one person full time stripping cars, probably 2.
You're going to need one person handling the on line side of it, and probably at least another one person looking after packaging and posting.
Probably another person handling phones and queries on a front desk.
Then theres sourcing cars, and also disposal - presumably by taking the remains to a scrap metal merchant?
Wheels and tyres - stripping the tyres off selling them separately, disposing of scrap tyres. You could be disposing of - by reselling or otherwise - 120 tyres a month.
Not saying its not viable, but curious as to how you see that looking?
Also, i'd imagine environmental health will be all over you like a rash RE: liquids disposal, etc.0 -
I see your concerns
staffing wise just me and my brother
if you know what your doing you can strip a car in a couple of days
probably start with Peugeot's 106/306 406/407 ect as this is what ive done before. worked for peugeot and owned and striped some over the years.
its all about marketing and greed. if you can sell good used parts at a few £'s cheaper than everyone else.
with the economy as it is and older car parts becoming harder to come by.
I just want to fine out what licences the EA and local authorities need ect
Its just a bit of a pipe dream at the moment but if i can get the info about what is needed then i can start doing figures to see if its a profitable solution.0 -
What i can make out, if you are dealing with end of life cars, your premises will need to be licensed, plus you will need a waste carriers license, a license and/or special area etc to store oil, any liquids drained from the cars, batteries and tyres will need to be stored in a specific way. etc
You will also need employers/public liability ( specific for your potential trade) .
You will also need to adhere to the new rules that are coming into force in december, regarding scrap metal ( cant pay by cash anymore, and you must have a proper paper chain, basically cradle to grave)
You can not do this from a private house/garage
here is a link to the environment agency, which I STRONGLY advise you to speak to for advice before you even start doing anything. Also you will need to speak to your local authority about their proceedures with this type of business..
