  • we spent 2 hours on the phone to BT today trying to get a sensible date to change lines when we move. they are quoting two and a half months, just a joke as we run a business from hime and need wi-fi and landlines. One of the people we spoke to suggested we try another supplier so guess what? We're taking his advice. Bye bye BT, hello Sky.

That's a new line provision though, not a 'change of lines'.
Since it's BT OR who do the line install work anyway for Sky, the date you are quoted by them will be similar.
If you asked for a business line, then you will get a quicker priority install. If you are running a business on a residential line then you are in breach of the T&C's anyway.

  • Oh God - i remember how much of a nightmare BT were when i moved into my current property. And we are now moving in 3 weeks.... I have tried to use the "moving home" bit on their website and it only takes me to the "checking the line" bit after the address checker and then goes back to the address checker. So i shall have to ring which i wanted to avoid at all costs as they are terrible on customer service.

Not sure whether the new property has a BT line or anything.... can i just cancel BT contract here and start with someone else at new place?? Or will i have to pay massive cancellation charge for here and then also pay a line installation with BT and then get new supplier involved?? Arghgghghg i HATE this!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
  • lindy238 - I agree with macman. We're with Sky and when we moved home they had to get a BT Openreach engineer our to do the line move. As such we were waiting almost four weeks for a phone line and broadband... You don't realise how much you miss the Internet until it's gone.

How did they 'cancel the contract'?
There is only one Ombudsman for telcoms, but they won't look at it unless you go through the complaints procedure with BT first and exhaust that.

An alternative point of view could be a phone bill was unpaid for longer than they normally allow. The service was then restricted at the same time the customer made a payment. If the service was cancelled, then the delay in paying was more than than simply being 'overdue' it would be a serious default.

When terminated, any minimum term costs are then billed and a final account generated. The account holder will then find this credit file showing the BT default. This will remain irrespective of whether the debt is paid or not.

Bills need to be paid, and as we all know circumstances are irrelevant when it comes to explaining why they've not been.
