Extortionate one off bill from British Gas
Hi
I moved into a new build home in April, the gas was being supplied at the time by British Gas. I swapped over to Scottish Power but due to my postcode not being registered with SP it took until July before the change was made.
I have just received the bill from British Gas for the 3 months they supplied me and they are charging 8.45p per unit, which is roughly twice what I am paying through SP. I have also checked British Gas' site and that seems much higher than they normally charge.
Do they have a right to do this? Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I should argue my case?

Were you using a small amount of gas?
This is not quite outside some of the 'first unit' rates that apply to the first few thousand units.0 -
Look at BG's standard rate.
You don't say where you live, but in my area(midlands) they charge 8.202p/kWh for the first 680 kWh in the quarter. It then drops to 4.661p.
During that period you wouldn't normally have used a lot of gas.0
