advice needed please
long story short I had an (not without reason) unhappy ex-landlord ring my mobile today, long story short our utility provider Utility Warehouse got us in a right mess with our bills and in the end we had no choice but to have a pre-payment meter in for both gas and electric, now we recently moved out and our landlord rang them to inform them as he's re-let the house obviously we will get a final bill and arrange to clear the outstanding amount.....however to his and my amazement they've asked him to pay £800 deposit before they'll put his supply back on (I wasn't aware it had been turned off) and then £150 to change the meters they've also said the'll block any change in supplier
Is all this legal and where does he go from there I assumed any debts incurred where ours and the new tenant would start with a clean slate (assuming they have no bankrupties etc)can anyone advise me what to tell him as he's always been fair with us and reasonable and I feel obliged to try and help him out as it's our issues that's got him in this situation.
Cheers
Shawn

It's your job to contact your supplier and arrange a final bill, not the LL's. How much debt did you have still on the PPM's when you vacated?
If the debt is more than about £200 then the supplier can block a transfer.
