Hi, my 8 years old xp PC has died. It only gets as far as ' boot from disk'.
I have the startup disk but that has 2 options:
1 RESTORE WINDOWS XP
2 BOOT TO VOMMAND PROMPT FROM CD-ROM
I've tried option 2 which gives me:
A:\>
How do I change that to c: - I've tried cd, cddir in various combinations but it stays on a:
I want to do this as I have a restore point command to run from c. I really don't want to do option 1 as tht says that everything on c will be deleted.
Please help

I think you just type c:"You're never beaten until you admit it."0

Type c: and hit enter. (I hope)0

If the hard disk hasn't failed, you may be able to get at your data using this, then factory restore.

Thanks but wouldn't it be easier just to put in a restore point?0 -
assuming a restore point works, if you can't find the c drive, nothing may work - is the disk visible in the bios, has the machine been moved?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
I'm not sure that it can't find c its just not letting me change to it.
Any suggestions please - I really don't want to start over again.0 -
check bios, check connections, see if disk is spinning.
What's the first message when the machine is switched on - of the bios battery has died, the bios could have lost it's settings - usually evident by the time being wrong - batteries available from poundshops!!

This is the old DOS operating system syntax to do a change drive.

I think at the A:\> prompt you should enter CD /D C:\"Some folks are wise and some are otherwise." - Tobias Smollett0 -
