Could anyone tell me if you still get grants to pay for school uniform? I'm on income support? If so how do I go about applying for one?

Your local authority will have the forms, you may also be able to collect them from the school office.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Our council pays £37.50 every 2/3 years and £62.50 for the 1st year at secondary school. DD started secondary last September and her uniform was £500:eek:     ...the grant helped pay a chunk and luckily FIL/MIL contributed:D

Clothing grants are discretionary. Wigan Council has quietly stopped all clothing grants from this year but I'm told there is a hardship fund. I find this appalling as most people on benefits have financial difficulties anyway and that's what the grants were for. They'll be giving out begging bowls next. It stinks.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

On the other hand, the price of school clothing from Asda, Tesco ect has fallen like a stone.

I wish we could buy DD's uniform at Asda. We can only purchase from 1 store in the UK:rolleyes: ...luckily though OH has started running the 2nd hand uniform shop:D

Durham doesn't give them full stop, under no circumstances. When my dd started high school 3 years ago her uniform cost me around £300, thankfully my ex and MIL helped out because there was no way I would have been able to afford that on my own. Then the next September they decided to change the uniform  and it had to be purchased from Trutex online, £13 per school blouse :eek:0
