Homemade twig Xmas tree?

Oh thank you so much for all the ideas, the driftwood trees look really good, I live by the sea, but I just don't have time to try something like that, and I think my OH would think I'd lost the plot if I asked him.
I was thinking of something like this:

But I think that by rights would topple over, unless the glass vase is somehow stuck to the table???
Something has twigged (!!) with me now though, I have one of those large green glass gold fish shaped bowls that you used to be able to buy with a garden/ plants inside-remember?
It's actually in the garden begind a bush, probably full of lovely creatures!
I could put some coloured gravel inside to weight it more, then stick a suitable branch inside, twist some lights around -might treat myself to the red berry lights............
Sometimes I just need other people to help my brain work!!!

Put the branches in first and then those glass topper stones in - they should fill the gaps and help keep the branches were you want them. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pot-Topper-Stones-Glass-Gardman/dp/B005SBLGQI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_lp_3
I have to say - I saved a load of wood the other day when pruning and I am going to make that driftwood one - for our community garden. It's marvelous! And so simple. *charges drill upIf you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Yeh I must say the drift wood ones look really good, and they don't have to be perfect when made either.
I might gather some driftwood on a walk and store, for when we have time. I'd like one of those up all year round-as a home made tree, not just for Xmas.
I suppose another "free" option for stabalising a twig would be pebbles from the beach?:j0 -
Yup - you could do this for nothing I guess. Which is excellent! If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
