Homemade twig Xmas tree?

Hi
Not sure if this is the right place, but thought it could be Oldstyle?? Please move if needed.
I want to make a twig Christmas tree! I live in the country so no problem walking to woods and finding fallen small branches.
I don't want leaves on it, and I don't want to spray it either, I just want it au natral! I'm stuck think what to put it into or stick it onto to make it stand up?
A vase I thought but I don't think I have any big enough, and the one I have wouldn't suit a twig!!
As well I want to wrap clear lights around the branches, but don't know if they will look too obvious in the day time on bare branches?
I want to make it about a metre or slightly more high to stand on a side board.
Has anyone any good ideas? I think my brain is on a go slow!
I am looking for the shabby chic or country look.
Thank you.

I would say charity shops and oasis are your answer.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

How about something like this http://www.johnlewis.com/281550/Product.aspx
I suppose it all depends how skilled/crafty you are0 -

Thank you for the link, I rather like that one!
I was thinking something less complicated, a branch with smaller twigs/branches coming off it.
Had a look at the vases I have last night, which I think are not wide enough on the base, and wood topple over with somthing that big inside.
Think I'll go off into the woods looking for the twigs first then round the chazza shops.
Thank you:beer::j0 -
My mum made a little twig tree and my stepdad made her a wooden base with a hole in it, into which he glued the branch. It's much more stable than a vase and it wasn't that tricky to do.0

I love twig decorations, the main problem is getting the twigs secure in the container, oasis is ok but if the twigs are thick you can end up with oasis full of holes which isnt very stable. I have a tall metal container I put a weight in the bottom, stones from the garden, then a piece of chicken wire wedged near the top, you can arrange the twigs through the holes in the wire and they dont wobble, the extra weight should stop it falling over. I put small pine cones in a layer to hide the chicken wire.0

We used to make a twig tree with my parents as kids. My Dad also made a base out of a larger log, with holes drilled in to place the twigs into. happy memories* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

A container (small bucket, plant pot) filled with sand works. I did this at school for the classroom.

Hi toozie,
As this has now dropped down the Old Style board, I've moved it over to the Christmas board to see if you can get more ideas and advice.

look on ebay for driftwood xmas tree. I made one last years - husband made a cross with two big bits of wood on the bottom then screwed in a three foot piece of steel pipe about half inch thick, I then rounded off the edges of the driftwood and made ahole in the middle and put them on the steel pipe all at different angles. Now stood in my garden - love it. You will get my meaning when you look on ebay...0
