Might someone with plumbing knowledge help with my awkward bathroom?

I want to know if we can replace the two separate taps on our bath with one of those mixer type taps with a shower hose extension?
And if so, how do I know what will fit, do I measure the distance between the taps?
I guess the water pressure / heating system is sort of important, but this is a temporary solution, I NEED. A shower and our bathroom in our new house, although newly fitted hasn't got one. We plan on, hopefully, may be, extending in the next few years so can't spend £££ but need a cheap ish fix
Is this doable?
Thanks

Measure the distance between the holes, it should be 180mm unless it was drilled out manually when the bath was fitted? If its 180mm you can just fit an off the shelf bath/shower mixer.
Head of water is important with your shower attachment, if its not good it will dribble out.
What boiler type have you got, combi or conventional? Do you have an unvented hot water cylinder?0 -
Thanks uncle Bulgaria, just what I need
I'll measure the holes, I'm sure it's a b&q special value price bath, so I'm sure it's standard
Now the boiler...it's a ye olde back boiler. No idea about vents, I suspect not. And 'head of water' ummm there's a tank of some kind in the attic. Is that relevant?
I'd take a dribble frankly
Is this a DIY job? I can turn off the water and I own spanners and stuff0 -
Measure roughly how far above the shower head (when you have it) the cold water storage tank is (the big one) 1 metre equals 0.1bar of pressure. Now if thats all you have it'll dribble.
Is it DiY, depends how confident you are?
Its not hard but I'm a plumbing/heating thingy so its easy for me to say.0
