I agree with the poster who said the fresh/unprocessed food is still good. I don't think it's superior to good quality choices in any supermarket, but still good. This is all I buy there (and the occasional storecupboard item) and have no complaints. I sometimes cut through the ready meal ailses to get back to the registers and can't say anything appeals in there. Those ailses are always empty in comparison to the rammed fresh ailses, so clearly a lot of people in my area feel the same.

Edwardia - The organic range is definitely lacking, but (as you know) this can be a pretty common problem amongst all supermarkets. But seems to be getting worse in M&S - couldn't get any organic tomatoes in mine today, not even any shelf space for them. They're also on a kick for "tree ripened" apples at the moment, so had stacks of those and not a single organic variety. When they have nearly a whole side of an ailse just for apples, I expect to see at least one organic choice!

ETA: I'd disagree with previous comments about Waitrose being better though, at least for my local branch. I want to love them but last time I was in there, the fruit was mouldy!

The M&S I use occasionally is fine. Got a £10 dine in for two today, which included a bottle of Pinot Grigio, large marinated whole chicken, side of mash, with leek, and bacon, plus 2 millionaire shortbread desserts. Very pleased, the chicken will last until Monday/Tuesday (not the rest of it though!) :p
New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!

i think the £10 meal deal is shrinking...the range of sides and puds seems to be shrinking and the quantities offered in the deal eg the amount of chips is smaller...i would rather they put it up to say £15 but kept up the quantity
    onwards and upwards

I do not agree. I think M&S always have been noted for their food quality and it is still as good as ever.

I also think that their clothing ranges for both men and women represent excellent value for money.

The only stuff i wouldnt buy generally is anything in the mens Blue harbour range.

I recently bought two pairs of mens Autograph jeans and they are excellent.

What i do believe is happening is that M and S are being stalked by the media and have been on and off for a nmuber of years. They will not be happy until they have slaughtered another great british company and then what will we be left with? Primark?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I hope not i don't want just primark its alright if you want to keep up with fashion and change your wardrobe every season but sometimes i like to pay a little bit more for things that will last and for that you need M&S. I also like their range of sauce bases not sure what they are called, clever something. they are having alot of offers on at the moment not just dine in they have night in or weekend in for familys feeds 4 no wine.

I love their crunchy cheddar, I bought their feta cheese recently & it wasn't any better than bog standard tesco feta cheese.

I do love their loose cherry tomatoes.

The £10 deals are good value, I never choose the ready meals always the plain chicken option. Their Pinot isn't great at all!

I think they've changed either the supplier or the recipes of their Indian food range - absolutely not so good.

Also theyve completely removed the little wheatgerm loaf which was my favourite. Theyll probably reintroduce it in the new year, with 'a new recipe' and a new price.
  • I went to M & S the other week (only because I was lucky enough to have a voucher) and got some breaded chicken fillet things/new potatoes with butter and herbs both absolutely lovely.
However also treated myself to some butter and a bottle of the scottish holy water (hic) - well the butter was rubbish no taste at all (I prefer the cheaper willow stuff) and tbh the scotch wasn't much better either.
However it was a small store and even if I could afford to shop there, there is no way that I could a weekly shop, other stores would have been better value and variety - even saisnbugs.
I couldn't find the meal deal either, which was a shame - hey ho.
    xx

Re butter - I think they are the last store to do spreadable/soft REAL butter. Kerrygold used to be real too but they added oil recently :-(

They are called the "Terribly Clever" range of bases and I agree, they are really good. Yesterday I used the Moroccan Smoked Paprika and Lemon tray bake one with some chicken and it was really good. Bought when they were on offer, of course!
