Best tablet for £100

Just after some thoughts on a easy to use tablet for around £100. It's for a 13 year old so nothing too complicated.

I know it's quite subjective but if anyone has good/bad points for me to consider that would be great :)

  • Does it have to be new?

I reckon you could get a 2nd hand Nexus 7 for that. They are not the absolutely best tablet but are very very capable.

I would be careful of the cheap non-branded tablets that are around. They are slow and may have poor quality batteries.

Any commercial sites for these or just through personal trade on the likes of ebay?

  • i think you will struggle to find a nexus 7 in your budget is your budget flexible? £160 buys a brand new one very good tablet arguably the best 7 inch tablet and certainly the best value IMHO.

I've had a couple of cheap(ish) tablets. The ones I had although the specs suggested they should be OK gave poor performance and were not compatible with many of the apps on the Android market. Some don't even support the official market although I think probably most do now. Part of the problem was missing sensors - a proper tablet has loads of them. For instance no GPS then maps won't work even though maps can operate just using wifi.

After the first week or so with my cheap tablets they ended up not being used. I use my Nexus 7 all the time. No doubt others will disagree but in my own experience cheap tablets were a waste of money. I've seen links to later ones recently and those specs do look good for the money but I wonder....
