Ashford (Surrey) rail station

Does anyone travel daily from Ashford (Surrey) rail station to London and back? How is the service and are the trains on time? Is the station safe as it is not manned after 1 p.m and looks a bit deserted? Are there frequent muggings near the station and is it a place where anti-social elements and hoodies hang about especially after dark?

Fairly good. It is only the 'slow' service that stops at Ashford unfortunately. You can check actual times from the trainline.com I've often passed through and it is quite a busy station despite being unmanned.0

Being unmanned does really affect the feel of the place but if you are commuting at peak times then there is nothing to worry about, even in the dark
if you come back after dark outside peak commuting then the immediate area makes you want to walk fast to get clear of it but as for actual real crime statistics I have no idea - google it

I used to commute from Staines (on Thames :rotfl:) for 7 years and in that time I can't recall much in the papers about it . That said, the only incidence of vandalism I have ever seen in my life was at Ashford - a hoody threw a metal bar on the tracks in front of an oncoming train and his mates "loved" the sparks that resulted0 -
Just seen this post. I didn't get this train from Ashford but I used to get this train at an earlier stop and it was generally always on time (within a few minutes, sometimes a few minutes early, sometimes a few minutes late). There's only one every half an hour though which is a pain if you miss it! It's a nicer train (compared to some of the others you can get) with air conditioning which is good in the summer and at Ashford you should still be able to get a seat every day.
As it's one of the less frequent lines you'll have no chance of it running in heavy snow though!
I can't tell you much about the station unfortunately but I've been through a lot of unmanned stations without any problems.0 -
Hi
I use a few stations including occasionally unstaffed ones and while crime unfortunately happens anywhere my impression from the level of vandalism I see compared to what I remember 10-15 years ago is that the increase in CCTV and ticket gates has really improved things. Anyway, for station crime try http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Ashford,%20Surrey%20TW15,%20UK#station but remember to compare it to other places.0
