Old regular boiler packed in - replacement ?

  • Thanks unclebulgaria.

There is a couple of small ups and downs in the piping from the meter and then about half of it in a straight line to the boiler.
I feel i now have a better understanding of the installers responsibility to ensure the gas supply pipe is correctly sized.

There are just the two of us in our household and there is one bathroom with a bath and separate mixer shower in it. We tend to use the shower. And we dont live in a mansion lol.

    Your advice is much appreciated.
  • Thanks macman.

I will look to find a couple more RGIs who hopefully will provide an unbiassed view on the type of boiler available for us.

A combi is indeed easier to install-and so the installer's margin may be higher.
For benefit of the OP, why is a combi an 'easier' install?

    .

Are you getting confused with a conventional boiler as opposed to a combi?
Swapping to a combi boiler from a conventional boiler is a lot more work.

Contact the maker of the original, I believe there is a modern ddirect replacement for the Gloworm, no pipework mods needed.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • Thanks bryanb i will look into this.
  • I too would assume that a like for like replacement requires the least work - that is a combi for a combi OR a conventional for a conventional.

im in a 4 bed, with one bathroom - a thermostatic bar shower with an unvented tank. Theres not a chance in hell Im having a combi when my boiler goes down. Thats just me though - after looking at the pros/cons. I dont like the idea that you would struggle to run shower and bath together (which we do at times), or run a bath while also wanting hot water in the kitchen and the CH on.

It also doesnt help that our water supply pressure isnt great - and a reason for replacing the electric shower the house had for a bar shower. It wsa only 7.5Kw - but even on cold (ie the dial turned down) the flow was pathetic, as was the flow from the taps by the standard of our last couple of houses.
