Problem is we aren't together. And although it hasn't been a problem I moved last year and was hard to change my son's address as his dad had to sign as well. Which took three attempts to get him to do.
His Dad is also a spender, where I am very much a saver. At the moment his dad complains how he has no money, but I think he wastes it, smoking etc, but also not looking at the cheaper options and saving when needed. To give an idea we had to take him to hospital a few months back, we got hopsital accomadation as far away from home and had to stay for 2 weeks. He refused to use it and choose to eat every meal out every day, buy new clothes rather than wash the ones he had. I choose to get soap powder and wash clothes, buy a loaf and have toast and make sandwiches etc, I did eat out but only a few times, tea was easy things at the house. After he complain at how much it had all cost him.
I don't trust him with money No, but I would trust very few people.
I want to close the account, we both need to sign to do that. Just to have one less tie with him as much as make life easier. His Dad has opened him a bank account, I have the second one for him, silly to have a joint one.0 -
I'm willing to look at that as an option, but he seems to want it to stay open as it is. He has just under £500 in there, Over £300 I have put in, since we split up. So would look at him having £100 to put in his own account for him. Which would be more than half of what was in there when we were together. Thast I think would be fair.0

Have spoken to the ex this morning. It seems he wants to stay on the account to be able to put money in online, that was his words. Now we split up in Oct 10 and he has yet to put money in. Even before he never put any in. It really was only birthday / Christmas money and money I'd saved for him. they have all had accounts as soon as they have been born, to save for when they are 18. So birthday money can go in, esp cheques. All my family live away so they have all often had cheques not toys, so works well.
His Dad doesn't seem bothered about what is in there, just that he can see what is in there. And as I say just like his sisters the money will go in and not get touched till they are 18. Then its there's to spend as they wish. His half sisters are older so have more, but if I put any in they all have the same put in.
Oh well I will carry on putting it in the other account with better interest (and his Dad has no access to) and just leave that one. Just means he will lose out on the interest and have less at 18. Unless his dad ever puts money in or agrees to close it or move it over. Just want them all to have the best start they can.0 -

Im rich.:D0 -
Had a spending day today, second of the month so doing well. I spent more than planned as the day went slightly different to planned. Ended up going for a cuppa with a friend, but resisted the cake so saved £2 there. That wasn't in the day's plan but nice to do. Went to Lidi for bread but spent more than planned. All was things we needed and will use and saved a shop tomorrow, so worked out well. I started the day with £12 in my purse and came home with 1p. Which was lucky. Would of had to put things back! Now only have a few pounds in my purse as if its not there I can't spend it. Also keep the purse at home if I know I don't need anything. If I can keep up this months spending should be at its lowest ever.
One of the kids after school club has changed day. It was the day of the paid for child care club. Anyway after speaking to the leader its been worked out while she does the school club she can't do the child care club, although its at the same place they can't collect her from it. And it would only be for half hour and I'd have to pay for the full hour and a half. So now I save £5.40 a week. The school club could finish half term so we will review things again then. We can't change childcare days as thats the only day that fits in. I'm likely to need the childcare for them all some time so good to keep that option.
Money was moved over to the interest current account (from the one that pays no interest) I just need to move it back as soon as I need it, but at least I'll get a little back. I'll need to move things around as much as possible to get the best return on it. So now trying to look at it daily to make sure I get the best from it. I have set up standing orders to make sure its there for the bills coming out though so just in case its there ready. Keep changing how I'm doing it almost daily, but think I have it worked out now.0 -
Have decided to open the first direct regular saver at 8% interest its worth it. To do it I've also had to open the current account. It means moving money in and out but worth it. If I want the bonus £125 I need to change 2 direct debits to them so looks like a few more changes there. And more messing about but worth it (I hope). It does mean paying less into the one regular saver to be able to save the full £300 to get the best interest. I'm thinking start with the minuim on the other saver and see how much is left at the end of the month for the next month. And if I need to cut down with the first direct saver as I can always pay more after the first month if under the £300.
I have decided to put the credit card idea on hold for now at least. I've opened a few accounts recently so may get confusing and not be good for the credit rating. When I'm used to how I'm doing it all maybe better as I'll be less confused.
Nsd today, too wet outside (no snow yet) and far too cold. We also don't need anything just yet. Have milk in the freezer and loads of bread. So far for January I've only had 2 spending days, which is really good for me. Need to keep this up.0 -
I've had three spending days so far this month, which is good for me! Well done on the First Direct account. I'm going to try and open a Halifax reward saver on Monday along with their online saver. I had some problems with Halifax back in 2007-2008 so I'm not sure if they will accept me. Here's hoping.Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490

Now have the first direct saver, full amount put away for this month. Not sure I'll be able to save full amounts to all 3 regular savers now. But will do the top interest ones and at least the minium payment for third or as much as can. Its going to mean shuffling money more, but if its saved I can't spend it.
I've had 12 NSD for the month so far, thats good. I have some spending planned, but hope to work it into other days of spending so doesn't feel so bad. The oldest 2 have the clubs money due. It can be paid between now and March. They like it done in first few weeks, but as long as its done by March its fine. Thats £40 gone. Hoping to hold of till the end of the month for that. Oldest also needs new school uniform shirts that have the logo so need to be ordered. So thats something in the next week to pay for. Also will need the jumpers which is a trip to school to get. Good job I can pass them down. Only problem is they changed the logo so hopping the old logo will be ok for younger ones to still use.
I'm keeping a check on the weather and the stock of milk and bread. Have enough but it could be needed soon, so may have to stock up a little. Trying to run things down a bit, but don't want to run out.
Had lunch at friends house, it was left overs from our weekend away, had been frozen at the time for next time we could get together. We are going to make the lunch a regular thing adults only, but also do a regular sunday lunch together. So that will be nice. I'll either take something or offer the money towards it which will be easier. She's a bargin hunter and goes to the shops in the evening.Nice to do something social together without kids as well as with.
My younger two are under the hospital, the local one but also the nearest children's hospital. We are supposed to be going to the childrens hospital for tests, they have said soon. Last time we went we got given a weeks notice. So hoping for a little more notice this time, just so I can prepare better. I keep pesturing now, the older one needs the test done to get answers, the younger one is in the system so its just checking how things are. Not that I want to go, just want it done out of the way. Last time it cost loads to be there, but I'll be more prepared this time. Make sure I take more snacks and drinks for us all, as that was the cost factor.0 -
The snow has arrived today, at least a little for our town, but the main roads into the town have the worst of it. Means the town is now cut off. We live in a valley so the top road that lead into the town get it we don't so much.
The school at the top of the hill close and the other 2 follow the example. Also means as most of the teachers have to travel to the town they can't get in. Have had spent the morning watching FB and the school web site. They tend to wait till 8.30 till they decide. Tend to hear from FB first. Kids are pleased no school.
It does mean no going out and spending, but also more food needed to be found. So good in ways but not others. Heating needs to stay on more.
I had stocked up a little on food yesturday so should keep us going. Hopefully all back to normal by monday as not sure the bread will last past then. There are gaps appearing in the freezer now. So will need to fill them soon, means an online shop. I'm hoping to hold out another few weeks though. May have to see what Lidi have to keep us going longer.0
