No Sound through my speakers!!

Options
I have purchased a second hand pc, running xp win, service pack2. Pentium 4. Everything seems to be in order after a formatted hd install. However I can't get no sound through the external speakers. Have GF 4 video card installed I think. Do I also need a separate sound card?? Or do I need to install some separate drivers??

Can any1 please enlighten me.

Many thanx

Yes I have gone through the usual fail scenarios. At the bottom of the taskbar you would normally get a volume control, well that is not displayed.

have you checked that the sound card has been enabled in the bios and that you have the correct drivers installed. check in the device manager for the presence of the card and that it has been enabled.

Sound and audio properties inform me No Audio Device??

It seems the system does not recognise the speakers are fitted.

Do I need to update some software??

  • Hi,

at the back of my tower there are two sockets for speaker jack, when I first set it up I had it in the wrong one, and no sound, switch over and sounds. :T

I have tried both of the sockets. The system itself is not recognising any speakers.
