1. Can you close the account online, or have to snail mail them?
2. The interest rate drops to 0.1% after 1 year, how soon can you open a new account of the same type? Triodos Bank for example force customers to wait one year before applying again for an instant access online saver. I guess it depends on the bank/BS.

You can only open or hold one eSavings account at any time.
For these e-savings accounts things do they usually require you to have a curr acc at least already with the bank concerned (like wot LTSB do)?0 -
OK. Just spotted that. You can only open or hold one eSavings account at any time.
I would suggest you look elsewhere for a better rate. You should be able to get a better rate and transfer across when the bonus period ends. See the Banking & Saving tab at the top of the page.

Dear Lloyds TSB,
Please close my eSavings account No.xxxxxxxx.
I thank you for preventing me [from] opening another eSaver and forcing me [to] look elsewhere. I have found a better rate.
Yours sincerely,
