Will grass grow in shade
We are going to redo our garden and want to enlarge the lawn but the problem is that the new part will be in shade except in high summer. Our landscaper has said that grass may be ok there, if we topdress it in the spring and look after it. is this realistic or should we pave over the area instead?

part of our lawn is in shade except for a very short time in high summer and it doesn't look any different to the rest of the lawn to be honest where it does look a bit sparse is directly under the trees all the time with almost no direct sun at any time, it still looks ok and tends on the mossy side but unless you go and look closely you can't tell the difference....
I am sure it will be ok as long as you don't want a billiard table type lawn...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

You can buy lawn seed specially for shady areas. Think I got mine in B&Q.0
